Niccolò di Giovanni, The Coronation of the Virgin Mary

Late 15th century
St. John of Trogir Chapel, Trogir Cathedral, Trogir, Croatia

This is the most common of the various ways of picturing the coronation of the Virgin: Mary and Christ sit on the same throne and Mary crosses her arms over her breast while Christ places the crown on her head. (Usually the Virgin Mary is seated close enough to Christ that they do not have to lean in toward each other.)
